Val brings over 30 years of experience in strategy, operations and senior executive management. Most recently, Val’s focus has been on offering board, leadership and strategic advisory to small – mid sized high growth ventures and not-for-profits. She is a current or previous member of several boards including: Steam Whistle Brewing; TKEES; Harvard Kennedy School Woman’s Leadership Board; Kahuso; Bishop Strachan School; and Black Business and Professionals Association.
Previously, Val was both chief administrative officer of BMO Capital Markets (where she oversaw strategy, marketing, compliance and supervision, real estate and business risk) and SVP, office of strategic management, where she was responsible for driving implementation programs for the top enterprise wide strategic initiatives across BMO Financial Group. Before joining BMO, Val was an executive consultant for Bell Canada. She has been chief operating officer in several software companies, including Kintera, a publicly traded software company for nonprofit organizations in San Diego; AudienceView Software, a ticketing and CRM company for theatre, sports and entertainment in Toronto, and; Trapeze Software, an international scheduling and CRM company for transit and para transit in Toronto. She has held executive positions at Amdocs’ internet division in Toronto, London and Tel Aviv, and Solect Technology Group, an internet billing company in Toronto acquired by Amdocs. Before entering the software industry, she was a management consultant with A. T. Kearney’s strategy and transformation practices in Toronto and Omega Strategy Partners in London, UK.
Val holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology (and Biology) from The University of Western Ontario, a Premier Diploma from the University of Grenoble, France and an MBA from the Ivey School of Business at The University of Western Ontario.
