As a Vice President, Shay’s primary responsibilities are advising the management of Gibraltar Ventures’ portfolio companies, vetting new investment opportunities and strategically executing on the overall growth of the firm. Shay brings nearly 10 years of strategy, technology, finance and venture capital experience to Gibraltar. Most recently, Shay worked in equity research at Scotiabank, where he covered large public Canadian and U.S. telecommunications and cable companies. Prior to his time with Scotia, Shay was with OMERS Ventures, where he was responsible for supporting due diligence on investment opportunities in the technology, media, and telecommunications sectors, as well as advising portfolio companies on go-to-market strategies, financial forecasting and growing revenue.
Shay began his career with inCode, Ericsson’s strategy and technology consulting practice servicing the telecommunications and tech industries. During his six-year tenure, Shay advised tier-1 MSOs, telcos and technology companies on issues such as new product development, growth strategy, operational improvement and the impact of technological change. Shay was also a member of inCode’s Venture Capital and Private Equity practice, helping VC and PE clients make investment decisions by performing valuation and diligence work.
Shay holds an International BBA from York University’s Schulich School of Business, and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University, where he graduated as the 2012 gold medalist.
